Exercise : Concentrating the light

Here I have made a funnel around the light and directed it at one of the camels.  I have taken another photo without the funnel just to show the comparison.

Exercise: Contrast and shadow fill

Here I have completed all the requested tasks and am happy with the results, which were better once on the computer.  When I was taking them I couldn't see much change on the camera or when looking through the  viewfinder, which was a little frustrating - I wasn't sure at the time if any of my efforts were making the slightest difference..  I think I would have enjoyed this more if i had all the 'gear', I'm not too good with foil and cardboard...

Exercise : The lighting angle

With a little help from an obliging family member, who helped me with the light positioning, I have produced these pictures. It again was a bit makeshift, but I was pleased with most of the results.

Exercise: Softening the light

As I am not very good at making these things, I purchased a fairly cheap soft box. It was all a bit make shift, but hopefully I produced what was required of me.

In the first picture the shadows are harsh in the front of the bundle on the back.  Also on the face and down the neck to the knees, also the colours are softer in the second picture.

Exercise : Outdoors at night

Well this threw up a few problems for me, I had ideas of the shots I wanted to take and then the camera didn't behave quite as I had expected.  The slow shutter speeds proved I definitely needed my tripod to avoid camera shake.  How you see the light effects, is not how they reproduce in the shot.  So, I have a number of night time shots, some I'm pleased with, others not so, and I will tackle this subject again and try to produce better pictures and learn more from my experience.

Exercise: Tungsten and Fluorescent Lighting

Here, I found a room which is lit by tungsten lamps and have taken a shot which includes the interior tungsten lighting and the exterior at dusk.  I have taken three photographs, the first with the White Balance set to auto, the second the white balance is set to daylight and the third the white balance is set to tungsten.

TUNGSTEN

In the first picture the interior light is quite orange, and the exterior colours are quite correct.
The second picture is slightly less orange and the exterior colours are a bit more blue, not quite true.
The third shot, where white balance is set to tungsten, here the interior colour is more accurate although not very warm, and the exterior is now too blue.

FLUORESCENT LAMPS

Here are two sets of pictures are lit by fluorescent lamps, again the first picture white balance is set to auto, the second set to fluorescent, and the third is set to tungsten light.

This is looking a lot greener.

Exercise : Cloudy weather and rain

Today is the perfect day for this exercise.. rolling clouds and sunshine.  I have taken three shots in the sunshine and again as the cloud passed over, with the white balance set to daylight / sun.
